I'm not sure where to post this message as there is no sub-forum for books. And since this post isn't off topic, I thought this was the best place to post this.

Over the decades, there have been so-called 'Encyclopaedias' of Science Fiction cinema published. While these publications mention many films, they are millions of miles away from being encyclopaedias, in the strictest sense of the word; other books, magazines and websites reveal that an encyclopaedia sized chunk is still out there. What I propose is an up-to-date encyclopaedia of Science Fiction film. All sub-genres of Sci-Fi will be covered, as well as hybrids e.g. the Sci-Fi/Horror ''Scanners'' (1981) by David Cronenberg, and films with a Sci-Fi element/gimmick/plot device. The films can be broken down into sub-categories such as theatrical films, TV films, made for VHS/DVD, OVAs. English speaking and international titles will be covered.

I myself am a connoisseur of European Sci-Fi films (or world Sci-Fi in general), and obviously this project will cover German (from the German Empire, Weimar Republic, the Third Reich, West and East Germany, and after German reunification), Austrian and Swiss Sci-Fi movies. This is intended to be an academic project, gathering and collating information from film archives, institutes and publications, to ensure that the information is as precise and detailed as possible. Websites such as Imdb would be used to begin drawing up a listology of films to be researched.

For each film there will be full cast (actors, voiceovers, dub artists) and crew listings, complete technical details (prod. companies, production dates etc. etc. etc.) and trivia. As for reviews, and this format is drawing on an earlier publication, there will be a contemporary review for each film, as well as reviews from publications (newspapers, magazines) from when the films were originally released. This is to make the publication unbiased, as well as to put the films into retrospect.

Now I'm guessing some may be wondering, what is the point of such a publication? The answer is simple, in this day of information aggregators such as Wikipedia, websites such as these do not mention every Sci-Fi movie produced from the 1890s to the present day.

I am looking for those who can review films, carry out research amongst other things. If anyone on this forum decides to participate, you will be compensated by being credited on the publication. Although down the line I might set it up as an Encarta project or something like that. I just like the idea of it in book form.

This project is in the planning phase, and at the moment I am trying to get as many contributors as possible. If anyone is interested, let me know.

Ich mich selbst ist ein Kenner von europäischem Sciencefiction Filme (oder Welt Sciencefiction im Allgemeinen), und offensichtlich dieses Projekt wird Deutsch (vom deutschen Reich, Weimar Republik, dem Dritten Reich, dem Westen und der Deutscher Demokratischer Republik, und nach deutscher Wiedervereinigung) bedecken, Österreicher und Schweizer Sciencefiction Filme. Dies wird vorgehabt, ein akademisches Projekt zu sein, das und sammelt, Informationen von Filmarchiven, Instituten und Veröffentlichungen zu vergleichen, zu sichern, dass die Informationen so präzis und detaillieren ist, wie möglich.
