Akte X 2 - I want to believe

Mal 'ne völlig andere Frage. Weshalb wird der neue Film unter "TV-Serie" und nicht in der Rubrik "Film" geführt? (Habe mir erstmal dort einen Wolf gesucht.) Nach meinem bisherigen Wissen hat der neue Film nicht mehr viel mit der Serie zu tun. Also wäre nmm die Verschiebung in den Film-Thread sinnvoller. Zumal hier nur die Hardcore-Fans erreicht werden und nicht der durchschnittliche Kinogänger.

XFN Exclusive: Early review of “I Want to Believe” We’ve joined all the forums. Our ring tones are slightly embarrassing. We downloaded the widget. We spent nights cursing the widget. Now, it is finally time for XFN to review “The X-Files: I Want to Believe.”

I attended the press screening of IWTB at the Darryl Zanuck Theatre on the Fox lot -- the very place they filmed the “premiere” of the zombie movie from “Hollywood A.D.” Clearly, this was going to be an uphill battle against my extreme urge to squeal and take 400 pictures. Luckily, I found other geek journalists and we formed an alliance in our very own row.

Here’s the deal: Mulder and Scully are living together in an “unremarkable house” somewhere around Richmond. Scully works as a doctor at Our Lady of Sorrows Hospital (probably named after Dana herself), and it appears that a bearded and shaggy Mulder builds his John Nash-esque collection of paranormal news clippings while she’s gone all day.

Agent Drummy (Xzibit) approaches Scully at work and asks her to contact Mulder for help on a case. Reluctantly, Mulder agrees, but only if Scully will come with him. Agent Whitney (Amanda Peet), harboring a little crush on Mulder, has asked for his help tracking down missing women. They work with Fr. Joe Crissman, a convicted sex offender/psychic investigator.
During the course of the investigation, Scully battles the hospital administration and her own conscience regarding the treatment of a young patient named Christian (Marco Niccoli). To compound matters, she also becomes troubled at Mulder’s “looking into the darkness,” a la the whole first decade they knew each other, and tension arises between the two.

The Good:

XFN Exclusive: Early review of “I Want to Believe”IWTB definitely has the feel of an older X-Files episode. It is dark and gritty, structured to start with the teaser, and then the various scenes unfold. X-Philes should keep an eye out for countless tips of the hat to the series, including the “I Want to Believe” poster, a picture of Samantha, and pencils on the ceiling of Mulder’s new home office. There are numerous appearances from former X-Files guest stars as well. In this respect, IWTB isn’t just a love song to fans -- it’s a full on, blasting “In Your Eyes” from a boom box outside the window serenade.

Billy Connolly delivers a truly haunting performance as the creepy but pensive Fr. Joe, living in a “dorm” filled with sex offenders who hate themselves and each other -- a very interesting concept. There are a few moments at the dorm that really echo the chilling first years of “The X-Files.” Connolly contributes to one of the movie’s strongest scenes, a heated argument between Scully and Fr. Joe that effectively raises the tension line until the end.

Of course, Gillian Anderson is characteristically subtle and heartbreaking as Dana Scully, turning what could have been weak lines (“I’ve got work to do here,” “I won’t be coming home”) into believable dialogue. The on-screen chemistry between Anderson and Duchovny is undeniable and perhaps stronger than in the series. It is evident that the two have aged, but that only adds maturity and humanity to their characters.

The Bad:

With all the secrecy around the plot, I must admit I was expecting something more shocking than what was presented. And if you’re a regular on XFN, you know my disdain for “poor helpless women” storylines. It pains me to say it, but this might fall under that category. Not only are the women helpless, but they’re also being attacked by scarily portrayed, reckless driving Russians.

The only other major qualms I had with the movie were Scully’s research methods (Google? Where are the usual kooky experts?), and whether the FBI would be as openly hostile to a collaborating investigator (Connolly) as Agent Drummy was. Oh, and there’s a crack about gay marriage that I still don’t fully understand.

The ‘ship:

Ah, the part most of you scrolled down to read. Sorry, photoshop “ring” enthusiasts, they’re not married. But, there’s a bedroom scene and enough smooching and hand holding to please even the most discriminating “shipper.” Refreshingly, Mulder seems to be much more concerned about Scully’s feelings than he was in the series. Scully tells Mulder that they’re not FBI anymore, they’re “two people.” And that is a perfect way to describe this version of their relationship. I won’t ruin it, but the final scene will have you in tears or at least pretending not to be.

The Verdict:

XFN Exclusive: Early review of “I Want to Believe”This is not just a movie for X-Files fans (though it doesn’t hurt to be one); it is a powerful thriller with gripping emotional detail. Fanboys might be scared away by IWTB’s cunning sophistication, but that’s why they’re fanboys. See it, take your friends to see it, then see it again.

Easter Eggs! Look out for:

- A grown up Vanessa Morley (the first Samantha) wandering the halls of the FBI! (I embarrassed myself with an “Oh my GOD!” in the screening at this, followed by poking and nudging my neighbors)

- Duck Duck Wally, a novel written by Chris Carter’s assistant, Gabe Rotter, sitting on Mulder and Scully’s nightstand

- Chris Carter pulling an Alfred Hitchcock and making a cameo in a scene at Our Lady of Sorrows Hospital

- Alex Diakun, everyone’s favorite omni-ethnic man from Humbug, Clyde Bruckman, and Jose Chung, here as the “Gaunt Man”

- Mulder and Scully in a way you’ve DEFNITELY never seen them -- after the credits! Stay seated and pick up those milk duds while you wait. (Thanks to Haven, I was able to tell my fellow nerd journalists to watch this when everyone else left. They loved it!)

Solangsam werd' ich schon ganz hibbelig...

Freue mich riesig auf dem Film! Die Serie ist in den letzten Jahren schon ziemlich eingeschlafen, ich finde es daher super dass der Film die Leichen mal wieder ausgräbt...

X-Files war auch meine erste Serie überhaupt die ich mir auf DVD kaufte und durch die meine Sucht nach Serien überhaupt erstmal begann... ^^
Mit der Zeit hat sich meine Sammlung dann vervollständigt, nur Season 8 und 9 habe ich erst letztes Jahr bzw. die 8. Season zuletzt zu Weihnachten bekommen - über den Preis der Digipack-Erstauflagen braucht man wohl bei den beiden Seasons nicht sprechen... :-S

Egal, einfach super dass ich jetzt die X-Akten mal auf 'ner großen Bildfläche sehen kann, den ersten Film habe ich natürlich nicht im Kino sehen können, mit 7 Jahren hatte man da noch kein Interesse für sowas...

Ach ja derzeit beginnt man ja langsam mit der Ausstrahlung von kurzen Clips zum Film hier im deutschen Fernsehen. Einen ersten kurzen Trailer gab es gestern Abend in einer Werbepause von "Eureka" auf Pro7... Hoffe dass man bald auch längere Trailer zu Gesicht bekommen wird...

Ach ja, das Akte-X-Spiel fand auch ganz gelungen. Hat die Stimmung der Serie gut rübergebracht.
Ich glaube, es war mal bei einer Grafikkarte dabei oder so.

Btw mal schaun obs dann auch was neues an der Spielfront gibt. Das alte PC Spiel gefiel mir sehr gut und bin gerade - a la nostalgiewelle - dabei es mal wieder zu spielen.

Also, wenn man Cancermans Tod verpasst hat, hat man wohl 3x nicht richtig aufgepasst. LOL. Erst wurde er in Redux 2 erschossen, hat es aber irgendwie überlebt. naja. Dann haben Marita Covarrubias und Alex Krycek ihn in Reqiuem im Rollstuhl at hopsa die Treppe runtergeschmissen und schließlich ist er in The Truth bis auf die Knochen verbrannt, was sogar explizit gezeigt wurde ^^

Aber bei Akte X weiß man nie...vielleicht war er ja ein Supersoldat und kommt zurück XD Oder es war nur ein Klon oder der Zwillingsbruder oder oder oder...

ähm ja in der Serie sind die alle tot, Cancerman ist in der Serie ja eigentlich 3mal "gestorben" nur im Serienfinale sollte es dann ziemlich endgültig gewesen (er abgewrackt in ner Höhle in New mexico in die nen Black Heli, ne Rakete ballert)

Ich hab mir jetzt bei Ebay nen fetten Stapel amerikanischer Comics zugelegt. Für 5 Euronen. Ich freu mich schon drauf, endlich wieder ein paar neue Abenteuer

Hm, doch, ich hatte das Comic zu FTF, das war supercool. Ich hatte eigentlich alles, was es zu Akte X irgendwie gab ( außer den TCs ), habs dann aber verschenkt Jetzt kriegt man ja nicht mehr FTF im Laden auf DVD, so ein Scheiß. Obwohl ich hoffe, dass mit IWTB dann eine Doppelbox rauskommt.

Ja so wars bei mir auch. Hatte diese deutschen Comics, das offizielle Magazin, VHS etc. Irgendwann landete es im Forum zum Verkauf. FTF hab ich als special edition auf DVD und Die Wahrheit. Das wars schon. Werde mir aber wohl die neuen Boxen holen. Bei den Figuren hab ich Mulder und Scully, leider nur die kleinen, für die 30cm Figuren hats noch nicht gereicht, Import ist mir wegen Porto zu teuer.

Wie der Trailer ausschaut, scheint ja Mulder mal in Nöten zu geraten. Er wird doch gen Ende durchs Eis geschleppt und liegt auch im Wasser. Huiui...Scully to the rescue?
